Nominally committed oneself to work? (6,2)
![Ross](/clue/static/ross-mug.min.png)
I believe the answer is:
signed on
'nominally committed' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with social activities as well as being past participle verbs.
Maybe you can see an association between them that I don't see?
'oneself to work?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'work?' could be 'do' (synonyms) and 'do' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Another definition for signed on that I've seen is " claimed benefit".)
