Crossword Genius

Norfolk Island ceramics made more fine (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

nicer

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'norfolk island ceramics made more' is the definition.
I can't tell whether this defines the answer.

'fine' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'fine' could be 'nice' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'nice' is present in the answer.
A single letter 'r' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for nicer that I've seen before include "More pleasant or courteous" , "More pleasant or fine" , "more lovely" , "Kinder; finer" , "more accurate" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
