Crossword Genius

Northern lass ready to retire? Florence, perhaps (11)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

nightingale

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'northern lass' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both people as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe you can see a link between them that I don't see?

'ready to retire? florence perhaps' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'ready' could be 'tin' (both are slang terms for money) and 'tin' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for nightingale that I've seen before include "See 13" , "Celebrated songbird" , "Singer in London square" , "One singing sweetly after dark" , "Bird - famous nurse" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
