Crossword Genius

Not a cold drink (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cordial

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'drink' is the definition.
(cordial is a kind of drink)

'not a cold' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'not' could be 'o' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'o' is located in the answer.
'a' is present in the answer.
'cold' could be 'c' (eg on taps) and 'c' is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cordial that I've seen before include "Agreeable - drink" , "stimulating drink" , "Warmly welcoming to the drink" , "Warm and friendly; drink" , "drink with a fruity flavour" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
