I believe the answer is:

'did some hoarding' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are past participle verbs, I don't understand how one could define the other.
'not put out when one' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'put' could be 'laid' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'laid' is found in the answer.
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is found in the answer.
A single letter 'n' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
