Not quite up-to-date fashion (4)
I believe the answer is:
mode
'fashion' is the definition.
(I know that fashion can be written as mode)
'not quite up-to-date' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'not' could be 'o' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'o' is located in the answer.
'date' could be 'd' (common abbreviation eg in DOB, date of birth) and 'd' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'me' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for mode that I've seen before include "Fashion in dome" , "Custom" , "Fashion; manner" , "Style, method" , "'Fashion, style (4)'" .)
