Noted form of palm tree (5)
I believe the answer is:
maple
'tree' is the definition.
(maple is a kind of tree)
'noted form of palm' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'palm' is 'mapl' which is within the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for maple that I've seen before include "Tree whose leaf features on the flag of Canada" , "Ample (anag.)" , "Tree with syrupy sap" , "Tree providing syrup" , "Tree providing Canada's national emblem" .)
