Obstruct current in two taps (apparently) (8)
I believe the answer is:
handicap
'obstruct' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are verbs in their base form, I cannot understand how one could define the other.
'current in two taps apparently' is the wordplay.
'current' becomes 'I' (physics symbol).
'in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'two taps' becomes 'handc' (hot and cold. I am not sure about the 'two' bit.).
'apparently' becomes 'ap' (I've seen this in other clues).
'i' inserted inside 'handc' is 'handic'.
'handic'+'ap'='HANDICAP'
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for handicap that I've seen before include "Disadvantage to offset an advantage to equalise chances of winning" , "hamper" , "Block" , "Limit" , "It impedes or hinders" .)
