Obtain in notedly legal fashion (6)
I believe the answer is:
elicit
'obtain' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'notedly legal fashion' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'legal' could be 'licit' (similar in meaning) and 'licit' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'in' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for elicit that I've seen before include "Draw out or bring forth" , "Bring out - evoke" , "Extract" , "Draw out (response, information etc)" , "Brings something out into the open" .)
