Old fairy shape court colonnade? (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

peristyle

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'colonnade?' is the definition.
(I know that peristyle is a type of colonnade)

'old fairy shape court' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'fairy' could be 'peri' (Persian mythological being) and 'peri' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'style' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for peristyle that I've seen before include "A series of columns" , "Row of columns around courtyard" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
