On earlier gate, one way out? (3,6,6)
I believe the answer is:
leg before wicket
'one way out?' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'on earlier gate' is the wordplay.
'on' becomes 'leg' (cricket term).
'earlier' becomes 'before' (synonyms).
'gate' becomes 'wicket gate' (wicket gate is a kind of gate).
'leg'+'before'+'wicket'='LEG BEFORE WICKET'
(Another definition for leg before wicket that I've seen is " Way to get out".)
I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
