On The Road: could it be eclipsing other books published? (2,7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

in transit

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'on the road could it' is the definition.
I know nothing about this answer so I can't tell whether it can be defined by this definition.

'be eclipsing other books published?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'be' could be 'sit' (sitting is a kind of being) and 'sit' is located in the answer.
'books' could be 'nt' (New Testament) and 'nt' is located in the answer.
'published?' could be 'ran' (running is a kind of publishing) and 'ran' is located in the answer.
A single letter 'i' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for in transit that I've seen before include "En route" , "On its way" , "on the wagon?" , "(Of goods) being moved" , "Being transported" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
