One drawn to learning a trade? (7)
I believe the answer is:
trainee
'trade?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't understand how they can define each other.
'one drawn to learning a' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is located in the answer.
'a' could be 'an' and 'an' is found in the leftover letters.
The remaining letters 'tree' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for trainee that I've seen before include "Person being instructed in work" , "one not yet qualified" , "One being instructed" , "novice" , "21 [TYRO]" .)
