One hired to liquidate Berks home (8)
I believe the answer is:
assassin
'one' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.
'hired to liquidate berks home' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'home' could be 'in' ('he's home' can mean 'he's in') and 'in' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for assassin that I've seen before include "Hired killer" , "Bravo!" , "butcher" , "One murders for political or monetary reasons" , "Carlos the Jackal was one" .)
