One of the overheads for a gangster (4)
I believe the answer is:
hood
'a gangster' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'one of the overheads' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'hod' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'for' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for hood that I've seen before include "Thomas -, Eng. poet" , "Cowl -- violent criminal (slang)" , "See 5" , "Protective cover - violent criminal (slang)" , "See 13" .)
