One out to make an impression (7)
I believe the answer is:
striker
'one out' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'make an impression' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'make' could be 'strike' (striking is a kind of making) and 'strike' is located in the answer.
A single letter 'r' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'to' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for striker that I've seen before include "Batsman facing bowler" , "refusing to play?" , "One refusing to work - rings the bell" , "Footballer; one withdrawing labour" , "Batsman facing the bowling" .)
