Ross

I believe the answer is:

deduction

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'tax?' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both related to property as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe there's a link between them I don't understand?

'one's worked out amount of' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'amount' could be 't' (T is an example) and 't' is located in the answer.
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is located in the answer.
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for deduction that I've seen before include "gathering" , "what Holmes made" , "Removal; finding" , "Taking off" , "What's lost" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
