Order leader to take beachhead in rowing boat (5)
I believe the answer is:
abbot
'order leader' is the definition.
'abbot' can be an answer for 'leader' (I have seen 'Leader of monks ' mean 'abbot' so perhaps 'leader' could also mean 'abbot'). I'm not certain of the 'order' bit.
'beachhead in rowing boat' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'beachhead' could be 'b' (head letter of 'beach') and 'b' is present in the answer.
an anagram of 'boat' is 'abot' which is within the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'to take' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for abbot that I've seen before include "Head of monastery" , "Senior monk" , "Father" , "Religious man" , "Monastery chief" .)
