Crossword Genius

Organising swindle, pinching silver (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

staging

'organising' is the definition.
(stage can mean to organise or manage)

'swindle pinching silver' is the wordplay.
'swindle' becomes 'sting' (sting is a kind of swindle).
'pinching' means one lot of letters goes inside another (taking inside).
'silver' becomes 'Ag' (Ag is the chemical symbol for silver).
'sting' going around 'ag' is 'STAGING'.

(Other definitions for staging that I've seen before include "in the greenhouse" , "Putting on a show" , "Putting on (a play)" , "Mounting (a play)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
