Crossword Genius

Our home space with less common exposed crockery (11)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

earthenware

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'crockery' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'our home space with less common exposed' is the wordplay.
'our home' becomes 'earth' (home of all humanity).
'space with' becomes 'enw' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'less common' becomes 'rarer' ('rare' can be the opposite of 'common' so perhaps 'rarer' is reasonable for 'less common').
'exposed' indicates the central letters (outside letters removed).
The central letters of 'rarer' are 'are'.
'earth'+'enw'+'are'='EARTHENWARE'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for earthenware that I've seen before include "Terracotta" , "Pots etc" , "Crockery" , "Vessels made of baked clay" , "Coarse pottery" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
