Out-and-out position for an actor (9)
I believe the answer is:
downright
'out-and-out' is the definition.
(I know that out-and-out can be written as downright)
'position for an actor' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'position' could be 'right' (right is a kind of position) and 'right' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'down' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for downright that I've seen before include "Plain-spoken" , "Out-and-out" , "rank" , "Absolutely!" , "Completely" .)
