Crossword Genius

Out of form? (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

shapeless

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'out' is the definition.
Both the answer and definition are adjectives. Perhaps you can see a link between them that I can't see?

'form?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'form?' could be 'shape' ('shape' can be a synonym of 'form') and 'shape' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'less' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'of' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for shapeless that I've seen before include "Amorphous" , "Without definite form" , "unstructured" , "unattractive to look at?" , "Lacking definite form" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
