Crossword Genius

Out of town - and out of the country (8)

Ross

I think it could be either:

suburban

suburbia

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'out of town' is the definition.
'suburbia' can be an answer for 'town' (thesaurus). I'm not certain of the 'out of' bit.

I can't explain the rest of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for suburbia that I've seen before include "Residential district on a city's outskirts" , "Pet Shop Boys song" , "Residential districts on the outskirts of a city" , "Residential area away from city centre" , "Outer city regions" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
