Crossword Genius

Outflow of currency (3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

ebb

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This might be a double definition.

'outflow' is the first definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'currency' is the second definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot see how they can define each other.

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for ebb that I've seen before include "Outward flow of the tide" , "Not to wax" , "Type of tide" , "Go out or recede like tide" , "(Water) recede" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail and The Irish Independent.
