Crossword Genius

Parent raising money supplying cassava (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

manioc

'cassava' is the definition.
(I know that manioc is a type of cassava)

'parent raising money' is the wordplay.
'parent' becomes 'ma' (ma can mean mum or mother).
'raising' shows that the letters should be reversed in order (in a down clue, letters go up).
'money' becomes 'coin' (coin is a type of money).
'coin' reversed gives 'nioc'.
'ma'+'nioc'='MANIOC'

'supplying' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for manioc that I've seen before include "root" , "source of starch" , "tropical plant" , "Cassava" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
