Crossword Genius

Part of aircraft that is in transportation, apparently (13)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

undercarriage

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'part' is the definition.
(I have seen 'part of plane' mean 'undercarriage' so perhaps 'part' could also mean 'undercarriage')

'aircraft that is in transportation apparently' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'transportation' could be 'carriage' (I've seen this before) and 'carriage' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'under' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'of' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for undercarriage that I've seen before include "part of the aircraft" , "Aircraft's landing gear" , "Aircraft support" , "(Aircraft) landing gear" , "part of plane" .)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
