Part of meal on a salver, say (6)
I believe the answer is:
entree
'part of meal' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'on a salver say' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'on' could be 're' (regarding) and 're' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for entree that I've seen before include "The right to enter a particular sphere" , "Dinner course" , "Served after the fish and before the main course" , "No way-out" , "Dish providing right of entry" .)
