Crossword Genius

Part of the world where silicon is put in battery (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

asia

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'part of the world' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'silicon is put in battery' is the wordplay.
'silicon' becomes 'Si' (chemical symbol).
'is put in' is an insertion indicator.
'battery' becomes 'aa' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'si' put within 'aa' is 'ASIA'.

'where' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for asia that I've seen before include "Eastern continent" , "A great deal of land" , "space for economic expansion?" , "Continent bordering three oceans" , "The nations of the East, collectively" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
