Crossword Genius

... party vote against? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

beano

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'party' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'vote against?' is the wordplay.
'vote' becomes 'bea' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'against?' becomes 'no'.
'bea'+'no'='BEANO'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for beano that I've seen before include "A bone for a feast" , "Informal party" , "Function" , "Enjoyable party" , "Comic - party" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
