Passage right through bar (7)
I believe the answer is:
excerpt
'passage' is the definition.
(I know that excerpt is a type of passage)
'right through bar' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'right' could be 'r' (abbreviation) and 'r' is found within the answer.
'bar' could be 'except' (both can mean 'not including') and 'except' is located in the remaining letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for excerpt that I've seen before include "Piece from book etc" , "Short extract" , "Short passage" , "part of programme" , "Selection, extract" .)
