Past being educational? (7)
I believe the answer is:
history
'past' is the definition.
(history is a kind of past)
'being educational?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'being' could be 'tory' (Tory is an example) and 'tory' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'his' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

(Other definitions for history that I've seen before include "eventful past" , "The record of past events" , "Study of past events" , "Time passed" , "Background" .)
