Pay debt to make home in the air (6,2)
I believe the answer is:
settle up
'pay' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'debt to make home in the air' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'make' could be 'set' (setting is a kind of making) and 'set' is found in the answer.
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Another definition for settle up that I've seen is " Pay the bill".)
