Crossword Genius

Peak of path to enlightenment? It gets hard (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

zenith

'peak' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'path to enlightenment? it gets hard' is the wordplay.
'path to enlightenment?' becomes 'zen' (I've seen this in another clue).
'gets' says to put letters next to each other.
'hard' becomes 'h' (abbreviation used in pencil classifications).
'zen'+'it'+'h'='ZENITH'

'of' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for zenith that I've seen before include "The acme" , "The highest point overhead" , "It's directly opposite to the nadir" , "Top point" , "The highest point, above in the sky" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
