Crossword Genius

Perfect, working out pain (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

utopian

'perfect' is the definition.
(a utopia is a perfect society)

'working out pain' is the wordplay.
'working' indicates anagramming the letters.
'out'+'pain'='outpain'
'outpain' with letters rearranged gives 'UTOPIAN'.

(Other definitions for utopian that I've seen before include "Too perfect for this world" , "Impractically idealistic" , "Fancifully ideal" , "Of ideal perfection (as More's state)" , "Of an ideal existence" .)

I've seen this clue in The Everyman puzzle in The Observer.
