Crossword Genius

Performed in Old Street, to start with (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

staged

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'performed' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both to do with creating things as well as being past participle verbs.
Perhaps there's a link between them I don't understand?

'old street to start with' is the wordplay.
'old' becomes 'aged' (similar in meaning).
'street' becomes 'st' (abbreviation).
'to start with' says to put letters next to each other.
'aged' put after 'st' is 'STAGED'.

'in' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for staged that I've seen before include "Orchestrated" , "Put on as theatre would" , "Put on play or other performance" , "Presented a play" , "Of a play, brought about" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
