Crossword Genius

Performing very well at home, showing class after penalty (2,4,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

in fine form

'performing very well' is the definition.

'home showing class after penalty' is the wordplay.
'home' becomes 'in' ('he's home' can mean 'he's in').
'showing class' becomes 'form' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'after' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'penalty' becomes 'fine' (fine is a kind of penalty).
'form' put after 'fine' is 'fineform'.
'in'+'fineform'='IN FINE FORM'

'at' is the link.

(Another definition for in fine form that I've seen is " Performing really well".)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
