I believe the answer is:

dilemma

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'perplexing situation' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'retired cover girl' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'cover' could be 'lemma' (lemma is a kind of cover) and 'lemma' is found within the answer.
'girl' could be 'di' and 'di' is present in the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'for' is the link.

(Other definitions for dilemma that I've seen before include "tricky position" , "difficult question" , "Perplexing situation or difficult choice" , "I'm lamed - it's a puzzle" , "Situation requiring a choice between (equally unpleasant) options" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
