Crossword Genius

Pets set out in groups (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

septets

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'in groups' is the definition.
'septets' can be an answer for 'groups' (I have seen 'Groups of seven ' mean 'septets' so perhaps 'groups' could also mean 'septets'). I am not sure about the 'in' bit.

'pets set out' is the wordplay.
'out' indicates an anagram (out can mean wrong or inaccurate).
'pets'+'set'='petsset'
'petsset' anagrammed gives 'SEPTETS'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for septets that I've seen before include "Groups of seven" , "Musicians" .)

I've seen this clue in The Mirror.
