Crossword Genius

Picture educational establishment with convict for member (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

collage

'picture educational establishment' is the definition.
'collage' can be an answer for 'picture' (thesaurus). I'm not sure about the 'educational establishment' bit.

'with convict for member' is the wordplay.
'with' indicates putting letters inside.
'convict' becomes 'lag' (I've seen this in other clues).
'for member' becomes 'cole' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'lag' put into 'cole' is 'COLLAGE'.

(Other definitions for collage that I've seen before include "work of art" , "work being stuck" , "Assembled-fragments art" , "Art form using glued pieces" , "Paste-up" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
