Crossword Genius

Plant producing fine bread regularly? (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

okra

'plant' is the definition.
(I know that okra is a type of plant)

'fine bread regularly?' is the wordplay.
'fine' becomes 'ok' (synonyms).
'regularly?' means one should take alternating letters (regularly take one letter, leave next etc.).
The alternating letters of 'bread' are 'ra'.
'ok'+'ra'='OKRA'

'producing' is the link.

(Other definitions for okra that I've seen before include "Lady's fingers; gumbo; bhindi" , "vegetable dish" , "Bhindi in Ind. cookery" , "Long green tropical vegetable" , "Tropical plant with edible pods" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
