Plenty of young men possess nothing (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

loads

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'plenty' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'young men possess nothing' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'nothing' could be 'o' (looks like zero - 0) and 'o' is present in the answer.
'men' could be 'lads' (I have seen 'Young men' mean 'lads' so perhaps 'men' could also mean 'lads') and 'lads' is present in the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for loads that I've seen before include "very much" , "bags" , "great deal" , "Tons, lots" , "Masses; cargoes" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
