Crossword Genius

Plundered and beat it, getting fired (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

ransacked

'plundered' is the definition.
(I know that plundered can be written as ransacked)

'beat it getting fired' is the wordplay.
'beat it' becomes 'ran' (I've seen this in another clue).
'getting' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'fired' becomes 'sacked' ('sack' can be a synonym of 'fire').
'ran'+'sacked'='RANSACKED'

'and' is the link.

(Other definitions for ransacked that I've seen before include "turned upside down?" , "Pillaged" , "Rifled" , "rifle in the past" , "Plundered" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
