PM once introducing article for nothing — or very little (8)
I believe the answer is:
pittance
'very little' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'pm once introducing article' is the wordplay.
'pm' becomes 'Pitt' (prime minister William Pitt).
'once' becomes 'ce' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'introducing' is an insertion indicator (some letters introduced or inserted into others).
'article' becomes 'an' (indefinite article).
'pitt'+'ce'='pittce'
'pittce' going around 'an' is 'PITTANCE'.
'for nothing or' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for pittance that I've seen before include "Very small allowance or wage" , "Very little bread, in fact" , "meagre payment" , "There's very little" , "Very small amount of money" .)
