Poetry to run backwards — but not concerning (5)
I believe the answer is:
verse
'poetry' is the definition.
(I know that poetry can be written as verse)
'backwards but not concerning' is the wordplay.
'backwards' becomes 'in reverse' (I've seen this in another clue).
'but not' is a deletion indicator.
'concerning' becomes 'in re' (short for 'in regards to' ie concerning a topic).
'inreverse' with 'inre' removed is 'VERSE'.
'to run' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for verse that I've seen before include "Poems" , "Literature in metrical form" , "literary offering" , "Piece of poetry" , "Section of a poem" .)
