Point finger at random, putting investigators out (11)
I believe the answer is:
incriminate
'point finger' is the definition.
'incriminate' can be an answer for 'finger' (both can mean to identify someone as a criminal). I am not certain of the 'point' bit.
'at random putting investigators out' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'at' could be 'in' (synonymous in some cases - eg at school, in school) and 'in' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'criminate' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for incriminate that I've seen before include "Make to look guilty" , "Make someone appear guilty" .)
