Pointless row at the greengrocer’s (6)
I believe the answer is:
orange
'pointless' is the definition.
Both the answer and definition are adjectives. Maybe you can see a link between them that I can't see?
'row at the greengrocer's' is the wordplay.
'row' becomes 'range' (I've seen this before).
'at' means one lot of letters go next to another (I've seen this in other clues).
'the greengrocer's' becomes 'o' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'range' after 'o' is 'ORANGE'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for orange that I've seen before include "Stocking-filler fruit" , "Order of the North" , "Mandarin?" , "Unrhymable word?" , "Citrus fruit; colour" .)
