Crossword Genius

Poirot's strongman (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

hercules

'strongman' is the definition.

I don't understand how the remainder of the clue works.

(Other definitions for hercules that I've seen before include "Labour-tackling hero" , "Mythical strongman celebrated for his "labours"" , "Hero of Greek myth who performed 12 great labours" , "Strong man of mythology" , "Greek hero who carried out 12 labours" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
