Policeman's firm where E might be taken (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

disco

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'where e might be taken' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't understand how one could define the other.

'policeman's firm' is the wordplay.
'policeman's' becomes 'di's' (detective inspector).
'firm' becomes 'co' (a firm is a company).
'dis'+'co'='DISCO'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for disco that I've seen before include "Modern dancehall of youth" , "'Genre of dance music, popular in the 1970s (5)'" , "Club with dancing to recorded music" , "Public dance hall with recorded music" , "Dance hall - music by Donna Summer and the Bee Gees, say" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
