Ross

I believe the answer is:

tories

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'politicians' is the definition.
(informal term for the Conservative Party)

'dealing with riots out east' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'east' could be 'e' (abbreviation) and 'e' is present in the answer.
an anagram of 'riots' is 'toris' which is present in the left over letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tories that I've seen before include "Members of the English Conservative Party" , "Right-wingers" , "The Right Stuff" , "Old British Conservatives" , "It rose (anag)" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
