Possibly saving firm in money difficulty (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

economy

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'possibly saving' is the definition.
'economy' can be an answer for 'saving' (I've seen this before). I'm not certain of the 'possibly' bit.

'firm in money difficulty' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'firm' could be 'co' (a firm is a company) and 'co' is present in the answer.
an anagram of 'money' is 'enomy' which is within the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for economy that I've seen before include "Me coy? No! (anag)" , "Careful use of resources" , "Country's financial state" , "Country's system of wealth creation" , "Financial saving" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
